Introduction
Barcelona also has an access regulation in place.
From December 2017 to 31 December 2018 Barcelona has an emergency scheme in place.
There are two areas for the scheme: “Zona de Bajas Emisiones Intrarrondas” in the inner city of Barcelona and larger “Zona de Bajas Emisiones del Àmbit40”.
From 1 January 2019 this scheme becomes a permanent low emission zone.

Dates and details

During episodes of high air pollution no vehicles without emission sticker are allowed to circulate.


From 1 December 2017 the minimum standard for vehicles allowed to circulate during a high pollution event in the Zona de Bajas Emisiones del Àmbit40 (outer city and neighbouring municipalities):

  • vans: Euro 1 (registered after 1994)
  • passenger cars: Euro 2 and lower (registered after 1997)

and in the Zona de Bajas Emisiones Intrarrondas (inner city Barcelona):

  • all vehicles must have a sticker (petrol registered after 2000 and diesel after 2006).


From 1 January 2019 the following vehicles are not allowed to circulate during weekdays in the Zona de Bajas Emisiones del Àmbit40:
vans: vans: Euro 1 (registered after 1994)
passenger cars: Euro 2 (registered after 1997)


From 1 January 2020 the minimum standard for vehicles allowed to circulate in the Zona de Bajas Emisiones del Àmbit40 is:
all vehicles must have a sticker (petrol registered after 2000 and diesel after 2006)

Putting the sticker on your windshild is voluntary - as the scheme is camera enforced.
